There are several reasons someone might consider preserving their fertility. For people facing cancer treatment — chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or surgery that may affect the reproductive organs — preservation is a medical consideration that should be discussed with the oncology and fertility teams before treatment begins. For others, a diagnosis of reduced ovarian reserve or a condition affecting fertility over time raises the question. Some individuals consider preservation for personal planning reasons.

The information here is educational. Fertility preservation is not appropriate for every person, and it does not guarantee a future pregnancy. A consultation is the starting point — it assesses your current situation, explains what preservation involves, and helps you make an informed decision without pressure.

Lab handling of all stored material is overseen by Aayush Agarwal, Ph.D., Senior Clinical Embryologist, at the Chandrapur centre. See our registrations for verifiable ART Clinic and ART Bank certificate numbers. See also all treatments and costs & EMI.

Frequently asked questions about fertility preservation

What is fertility preservation?
Fertility preservation refers to the process of collecting and storing eggs, sperm, or embryos so that they can be used at a later date. It is considered in a range of situations — including before medical treatment that may affect fertility (such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy for cancer), in cases of conditions that may reduce ovarian or testicular function over time, and by individuals who wish to keep their options open for personal reasons. The appropriateness of preservation, and which method is suitable, depends on the individual clinical and personal circumstances.
Who should consider egg freezing?
Egg freezing (oocyte cryopreservation) may be relevant for women facing cancer treatment that could affect the ovaries, those diagnosed with conditions that reduce ovarian reserve (such as severe endometriosis or premature ovarian insufficiency), or those who wish to preserve fertility for personal reasons. Ovarian reserve naturally decreases with age — this is a biological fact — and egg quality is generally considered to be higher when eggs are collected at a younger age. Any decision to freeze eggs should be made after a consultation that includes an assessment of current ovarian reserve and a full discussion of what freezing can and cannot guarantee.
How are eggs and embryos stored at Aansh?
Eggs, sperm, and embryos are stored using vitrification — a rapid-freeze technique that reduces ice crystal formation. Stored material is held in liquid nitrogen at −196 °C in the Aansh ART Bank, which is registered with the National ART and Surrogacy Registry under the ART Act 2021 (Reg. No. MH/AB/2024/11445/Chandrapur/91). The lab is managed by Aayush Agarwal, Ph.D., Senior Clinical Embryologist. Full registration details are available at the registrations page.
Is frozen storage safe, and how long can eggs or embryos be stored?
Vitrification is a well-established technique and is widely used in assisted reproduction. Stored eggs, sperm, and embryos can remain viable for extended periods when stored correctly under regulated conditions. The maximum duration of storage in India is governed by the ART (Regulation) Act 2021 and associated rules. At the time of storage, the clinical team explains the permitted storage periods and the process for extending or using the stored material, so that you understand your options clearly.
